YOGA FOR CANCER
20 Apr 24 | 10:00 am - 16:00 pm
A fabulous opportunity for cancer survivors & thrivers to gather together for a day of community, rest & rejuvenation at the beautiful St. Michael’s Resort, Falmouth. Suitable for anyone on a cancer journey, whether you are in active treatment and feel well enough to participate in gentle movement and guided relaxation, or are in recovery from recent or historic treatment.
The day is facilitated by Lauren (more about her here), an experienced yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga, with specialist training in working therapeutically with cancer. Lauren is not only an experienced teacher, but is on her own cancer journey. Now six years on from a Bowel Cancer diagnosis, Lauren’s life has been shaped by cancer and impacted by treatment and ongoing surveillance. Yoga has played a significant role in the management of her own physical, mental and emotional recovery from Cancer and this is what she will be sharing on the day.

Welcome to St Michaels
Arrive at St Michaels Resort to a welcoming warm drink. Enjoy this chance to meet and get to know each other before settling in for a day of wellness.
Mindful & Somatic Movement
Explore gentle, joint-freeing movements which aim to cultivate curiosity about the physical experiences that arise within, alongside the compassionate ways in which we can meet arising sensations.
This guided session teaches you techniques that help to manage pain and discomfort, as well as relieveing physical tension.
A chance to relax, chat and nourish your body as you share experiences.
Managing Anxiety Workshop
Explore mindfulness exercises and learn new breathing techniques that will help you manage anxiety by breaking the cycle of mental rumination. Turn the fear of the unknown into a deep appreciation of life with new practices you can take home to continue with on your cancer journey.
Next, enjoy half an hour of restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra as the session takes you through an exploration of floor-based yoga poses, supported by bolsters, blocks and blankets for added comfort. These moves offer the opportunity to relax and switch off.
Your Yoga Nidra practice will be a guided meditation, which systematically moves through mind, body and soul. This session will begin with intention setting, followed by rhythmic movement an exploration of your inner landscape and intention setting.
Grounding & Goodbyes
A slow return from your Yoga Nidra session will allow you to wake from your yogic sleep at your own pace. As a group we will then work through anything that may have arisen for you within the practice through discussion and listening.
Following this our day will end with a warm drink and goodbye.
Delicious and nutritious local produce creates the ideal plate for your lunch break.
Get to know your Instructor for your session. Lauren is an experienced instructor with many years of yoga practice and instruction under her belt.
