Introduction to The Cornish Diving Centre

Activities

Let us introduce you to the team behind the supremely successful Cornish Diving Centre just around the corner from us; Keith Dimond, Mike Bailey, Matt and Sue Disley. We've recently partnered up to offer our members discounts down at the centre, so went down to learn a little more about them...

WHAT IS DIVING IN CORNWALL LIKE?

There’s a common misconception that Cornish waters are cold and grey, but that’s not the case. Diving off Gyllyngvase beach (a stone’s throw from our health club) is a colourful, exciting experience. Even in a meter of water there’ll be shoals of small fish. If you’ve ever been out in the sea at Gylly you know how clear the water is. The number one reason we love diving is Cornwall is that you never know what you’re going to see around the corner, it’s not a coral reef but there are plenty of colourful and interesting fish out there.

THE MOST INTERESTING ANIMAL YOU'VE SEEN IN CORNISH WATERS?

Sue’s favourite is the Cuttle fish as they’re inquisitive and interact with divers. The way they change colour as they swim over the seabed is something you have to see and luckily for us in Cornwall, they’re pretty common and it’s likely you’ll see one on a dive. She also talked about seeing blue sharks on a boat dive further out.

The Cornish Diving team are some of the most passionate people you’ll find and diving is, obviously, something they love. They also operate with a green conscience, after all, once you know what’s under the sea and experience the wildlife there it’s hard not to! The most common things they find are tennis balls and Frisbee rings which get donated to Matt and Sue's dog, Sam.

We’re really excited to announce that Cornish Diving Centre are offering all our gym members a Discover Scuba session at their dive centre for £25 instead of the normal price of £65; this is a great opportunity to find out a bit more about scuba diving, learn some hand signals and have a chance to get under the water in their fully heated indoor pool.

Members who want to continue with scuba diving and gain their PADI Open Water Diver qualification can do so through the Cornish Diving Centre and receive a free snorkel and mask set.

So, why not head underwater and discover a whole new world on your doorstep?
